Chloe's Political Views

Okay, so I don't want to start any controversies in the blog world, so having said that I thought it was funny to hear my 9 year old daughter and her views on who should become the next President. I will start by saying we discuss politics a lot in this home, for some reason Zak and I are obsessed with following all the latest, even when it is not an election year. I will give you a little glimpse of how crazy we are....we stayed up until 1:00 am last night to hear Sarah Palin's speech twice and then hear all the commentary about it.
So imagine my surprise when Chloe came in this morning (of course the TV was on the news) and said matter of factly, "I don't like Obama, he doesn't like this country and shouldn't you like the country that you trying to be president of." Okay, maybe we have discussed this in front of her, but I honestly cannot think of when it was. We had just had this discussion the night before as we were listening to the speeches, so maybe she is psychic. Either way, I thought she pretty much hit the nail on the head! Again, the reason why I LOVE this country is because we can all have our own opinions! If you have one let's hear it....leave a comment!

Adorable! I used to be all political when I was her age, too ;-) Of course, you should probably explain to her that it's silly to think that Obama doesn't like his country. In fact, he likes it so much that he's doing what he thinks is right to make it a better place. You can disagree with what you think is right for the country, but him not LIKING the USA? Not logical. Unless you're Rush Limbaugh.

That being said, I'm hoping to get a glimpse of the old McCain tonight-- I miss him. I miss being able to respect him. But lately, when he's pandering to the neo-cons, I feel like I've stumbled across dirty pictures of my grandpa.

If McCain wanted to win, he would have picked Romney as a running mate.

If McCain wanted to maintain personal integrity, he would have picked Lieberman.

Palin should be spending more time with her 5 young children and special needs kid. I know, totally sexist, right? But let's face it-- it's the elephant in the room.

Last week during the DNC we had CNN coverage on during dinner, assuming the kids were just tuning things out, when suddenly #1 says, "Who are we going for?" Huh? I've never even explained elections or the office of president before. I told her we were "going" for McCain. So now whenever we've got the news on and McCain's name comes up, she gets excited and starts yelling, "they're talking about McCain!" It's pretty funny what kids pick up on.

As far as Palin goes, yes Moses is sexist. It bugs that people can easily forgive McCain for his moral indiscretions, can easily overlook Obama's two young girls, with a mother working a power-job ($300,000 K/yr) and not think those kids are getting overlooked. A total double standard. Yea, I would stay home with my kids. But that's what I do anyway. This lady has something to contribute, something no other person can give quite the same, but she shouldn't give it because she has kids? That attitude is an indictment on every working mom. Besides, her husband is a full-time stay at home dad. I don't think the kids are neglected.
